Pebble Pool prayers at home

Pebble Pools

In our churches in the Woodfield Team, we have Pebble Pools. Those who wish to offer prayers for themselves and others could place a pebble in a pool of water – it’s a different way of praying than with words alone. Many have found it helpful but now the church buildings are closed. So what about creating your own Pebble Pool at home? All you need: a bowl of water and some pebbles!

Stone is a symbol of rootedness and security. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the ‘chief corner stone’, the foundation stone upon which Jesus meets with his people. Through Jesus Christ your prayer will be heard.

Water is a very powerful symbol of God’s love and God’s presence. Jesus said: “whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life”. Water symbolizes new life and it helps wash clean impurity, bringing healing and wholeness. For Christians, it is the symbol of Baptism. Your prayers, immersed in the pool of water, are immersed in the healing presence of Christ.

  • Place a stone representing your life in the bowl of water – thus placing yourself in the healing love of God.
  • Choose another stone. You may wish to hold it quietly in your hand and say a prayer. Then place that in the water; it can represent a prayer for others, for a certain situation, something on your heart. It may be an act of remembrance in memory of someone.

Or you may wish to say this prayer as you place it in the water:

Heavenly Father, I place into your presence........................... In your mercy receive my prayer. This I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Every Sunday, empty your pool and on Sunday we will pray for you and all that those pebbles represent.

If you would like, email me or Rick Tett a picture of your pebble pool that we can share teamrector@stlaurencechurchmeasham.org.uk  or teamvicar@applebygroup.org.uk
